Privacy policy

This page explains what happens to your details when you contact me or book a lesson. I teach on my own, so there is no big company behind this site: just me, my lessons and the few tools I need to run them. I only collect what I need to reply to you and to teach you well.

Who I am

This website belongs to Amber, Your English Teacher. I give online English lessons, IELTS preparation, thesis reviews and CV and interview coaching. I am responsible for the personal data described on this page. If you have a question about your data, you can reach me at [email protected] or on WhatsApp at +31 6 84 33 90 68.

What the forms collect

When you fill in the contact form, I receive:

  • your name;
  • your e-mail address;
  • your phone number, if you choose to give it (this is optional);
  • the lesson or service you are interested in;
  • your message, for example your goal, your level or the exam you are preparing for.

If you message me on WhatsApp or by e-mail, I see the details you send me there. Once we work together, I keep short notes on your progress and, for a thesis review or CV coaching, the documents you send me.

Why I use it, and on what basis

I use your details to answer your question, to plan and teach your lessons, to give you feedback and to send you invoices. I do not use them for newsletters or advertising, and I never sell them.

Under the privacy law (the GDPR), I may use your details because you ask me to reply to you or to teach you: this is needed to take steps before an agreement and to carry it out. I keep invoices because tax law requires it.

How long I keep it

  • Messages from people who do not book a lesson: up to six months after my last reply.
  • Lesson notes and documents you sent me: up to one year after our last lesson, so we can pick up where we left off if you come back.
  • Invoices: as long as tax law requires, which in the Netherlands is seven years.

You can always ask me to delete your messages and notes sooner.

Who sees it

Only me. I do not share your details with other teachers, schools or companies. Your messages pass through my e-mail provider and the company that hosts this website, because that is how e-mail and websites work, and visit statistics go to Google Analytics if you allow them. They only store the data for me and may not use it for anything else.

Cookies and statistics

This site uses functional cookies, the small files it needs to work properly. If you click Accept in the cookie message, it also uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read, so I can improve the site. Google stores this data for me; I do not use it for advertising and I cannot see who you are. If you click No thanks, no analytics cookies are placed. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.

Your rights

You can ask me at any time to:

  • see which details I hold about you;
  • correct details that are wrong;
  • delete your details;
  • stop using your details, or send them to you in a usable file.

Just send me an e-mail and I will reply within a few days.

Changes to this page

If I change how I handle your details, I will update this page and the date at the top.
