Hi reader, my name is Amber. For more than 5 years, I’ve taught English in classrooms – for travelling purposes, whereas others needed English for work, and even more wanted to use it to move abroad in search of a better life. However, what all had in common was a goal – and unfortunately not enough time to chase it.
That’s why I moved my teaching online. Don’t get me wrong – the classroom is a wonderful space to improve one’s English in, but also rigid in many ways. With online learning, you can have a lesson in your kitchen at 7pm, on a Saturday morning before the world wakes up, a quick session between classes or meetings – whenever it suits you. I’ve come to realise that this is much more effective in the long run and shows much more success! The depth of the course stays the same; just on your time, pace and preference of learning.
I work with students that are interested in seeing results and putting the work in – a desire for better conversations, to passing that exam, finishing that thesis, that CV that gets you that interview, and/or how to nail that interview. What makes me different from other teachers – and I’m not talking qualifications.
I was fortunate to have started learning English at the age of twelve which included an extensive course and was therefore anything but easy. However, years later, I’ve come to realise how important this experience and ability to speak English fluently are in today’s working world and society – it opened so many doors that would’ve otherwise not been possible. This is exactly where I draw my motivation and passion from when it comes to teaching – I would love to help you open those same doors, reach for those opportunities and achieve your dreams!

IELTS prep course
IELTS is a whole different ballgame. It’s a specific test with lots of things to keep in mind: the time pressure in Reading, how your Speaking is scored, and the structure examiners wish to see in your Writing are just a few examples. Often your level of English is not reflected in your band score – it is about understanding the exam and learning the tricks to mastering it.
Luckily, I’ve prepared and will continue to prepare students for both General and Academic IELTS. After an initial test to check your current band score, the course commences and only focuses on what you need in order to get your band score up (in any of the sections needed). Most students aim for the target score for university entry (6.5) or for professional registration (7.5). However, we aim for hitting a 0.5 higher and build the prep around that because I believe you can achieve that!
The prep course includes lesson slides (after each lesson), targeted homework, mock tests, exam-day strategy and detailed band-by-band feedback.
Alongside the lessons, expect about 3 to 5 hours of independent study a week.
MAVO / HAVO / VWO exam prep
Don’t know where to start learning or did you get stuck somewhere along the way? Don’t worry; you are not alone in this! The Dutch English exams are not just about knowing the English language. It’s also about understanding how the test works and how to answer the questions. This is often where students actually lose out on marks.
However, no need to throw in the towel! Having done these exams myself, I know exactly how you feel and I also know how to get you through them. Aside from improving the four basic skills – reading and listening comprehension, as well as speaking and writing – you’ll improve your everyday vocabulary. This is all done using what the school is teaching you plus test-specific techniques that will help you out in the exam. Most importantly, I am here to help you through this tough time and so the lessons are tailored to your needs, your preference of learning, and focusing on the areas that you find difficult.
You (and your parents) will notice the difference – first in your confidence, then the grades follow. All of this can happen within a handful of lessons.
Conversational English
One of the most common answers I receive when asking: “What do you find most difficult in English?” is either phrasal verbs or having a conversation. There’s no preparation time when speaking, your nerves kick in, and sometimes this results in you freezing up. Second-guessing, stammering, and losing confidence are all classic features when improving and conversing in a new language.
So here’s my idea – no textbook, no grammar drills, no repetition – just talking. The first few lessons might be scary but soon you’ll feel much more comfortable and your confidence will skyrocket within no time! Conversational English classes start with topics that you are interested in (travel, current events, hobbies, business etc.) and develop over time into more difficult contexts, all depending on your needs. You’ll receive corrections as well as the lesson slides so you can even practise with your friends and family outside the classes. Most students notice a clear difference within five lessons!
Highly recommended when you need English for travel, work, presentations, networking events etc.
Thesis review
Your thesis represents months, sometimes years, of work. As a graduate myself, I will never forget the days, nights, and every moment in between that is spent on this masterpiece (including those moments where you think there’s no light at the end of the tunnel). The absolute last thing you want is for unclear arguments or awkward English to undercut what you’ve actually achieved.
I review your full draft for structure, argumentation, cohesion, clarity and language. Moreover, you’ll receive detailed feedback that you can actually act upon and we’ll stay in touch as you are making your changes. There’s also a final review at the end to ensure your thesis is a winner!
What’s included:
- 2 rounds of detailed written feedback on the full thesis
- 2 video calls (one after each review) to discuss revisions; each call usually lasts 1 to 2 hours
- Email support between rounds in case of quick questions
CV & job coaching
Looking for that new job, sending out hundreds of CVs but barely catching any attention? A good CV doesn’t just list what you’ve done – it should show the hiring manager why they should call you. Sounds easy enough but in reality, it really is not and also the reason why most CVs don’t get replies. The same applies for job interviews: finding that right balance of professionalism and personality without going into too much detail is a tricky, yet manageable skill to learn.
I review your CV with your target roles in mind and develop lessons based on that. I will not be handing you feedback just like that – instead, I teach you how to write a great CV and share my feedback along the way. As the famous proverb goes: “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”
This is exactly what we’ll be doing for both CV writing as well as job interviews.

- Two or three lessons (depending on your needs) to teach you how to write an amazing CV yourself and go through the recommended changes
- Final review of your revised CV before you start applying

Yes. I prepare students for the MAVO, HAVO and VWO English exams, including the centraal eindexamen. We work on the skills the exam tests (leesvaardigheid, schrijfvaardigheid, kijk- en luistervaardigheid) alongside whatever the school is teaching at the moment. Parents are welcome to sit in on the first lesson.
That’s exactly the kind of work I do most often. Tell me your target score, your test date and your most recent practice or test result. We start with a test of your current band score, which shows whether your target is realistic by that date. Then we plan backwards from your test date, with mock tests along the way so you know how you’re doing. With the suggested two 90-minute lessons a week, that’s €100 a week.
With a free 15-minute intro call, ideally with your child there too. I get a sense of where they are, what they find hard and what the school is teaching, and then suggest a lesson plan. There’s no pressure to commit; many parents book a few lessons before deciding on anything longer.
