My background and experience

Hi reader, my name is Amber. For more than 5 years, I’ve taught English in classrooms – for travelling purposes, whereas others needed English for work, and even more wanted to use it to move abroad in search for a better life. However, what all had in common was a goal – and unfortunately not enough time to chase it.
That’s why I moved my teaching online. Don’t get me wrong – the classroom is a wonderful space to improve one’s English in, but also rigid in many ways. With online learning, you can have a lesson in your kitchen at 7pm, on a Saturday morning before the world wakes up, a quick session between classes or meetings – whenever it suits you. I’ve come to realise that this is much more effective in the long run and shows much more success! The depth of the course stays the same; just on your time, pace and preference of learning.
I work with students that are interested in seeing results and putting the work in – a desire for better conversations, to passing that exam, finishing that thesis, that CV that gets you that interview, and/or how to nail that interview. What makes me different from other teachers – and I’m not talking qualifications.

I was fortunate to have started learning English at the age of twelve which included an extensive course and was therefore anything but easy. However, years later, I’ve come to realise how important this experience and ability to speak English fluently are in today’s working world and society – it opened so many doors that would’ve otherwise not been possible. This is exactly where I draw my motivation and passion from when it comes to teaching – I would love to help you open those same doors, reach for those opportunities and achieve your dreams!

FAQs

Yes. I prepare students for MAVO, HAVO, and VWO English exams, including the centraal eindexamen. We focus on test-specific skills (leesvaardigheid, schrijfvaardigheid, kijk- en luistervaardigheid) alongside whatever the school is currently teaching. Parents are welcome to sit in on the first lesson if they’d like to.

That’s exactly the kind of work I do most often. Tell me your target score, your test date, and your most recent practice or test result. We’ll plan the prep backwards from your test date, with mock tests along the way so you know how you’re tracking.

With a free 15-minute intro call, ideally with your child present. I’ll get a sense of where they are, where they’re struggling, and what your school is currently teaching. From there I’ll suggest a lesson plan. There’s no pressure to commit, and many parents book a few sessions before deciding on a longer arrangement.
